Dina Streets shares her life with her best friend and pet, Alli. She has this to say about Orcas Island:
“The people here are amazing. So many wonderful things have happened as a result of the people I have met here. The air! I love the air here … About the only regret is lack of food options.”
Dina has always been an observer of beauty and, out of that grew a love of photography that she still carries today. It was a family calling, as well. She recalls many happy times spent in the home-built dark room.
As for music, she “loves, loves, loves jazz and soul music,” but her everyday go-to is hip hop: “Hip hop is relevant, international, and forever growing and evolving.”
Another of her passions is cooking — making people happy with good food is in her DNA.
Her answer when asked to reflect on her own school experience: “I believe that school is important for socializing, integrating new ideals, and building self-awareness.” As a child of teachers, Dina “loved school!” She alsy credits her parents with instilling in her a life-long love of learning. When asked what lessons her work life has taught her, she says she “was raised to be a hard worker for the things I wanted — that nothing in life is free. Integrity goes a long way. If it is your passion, it’s less like work and more like wish fulfillment.”
If Dina could do anything she “would travel the world first, then I would do my best to address the problems of the elderly, the young vulnerable citizens of our country — and be present for them.”
Lastly, she “would strive to protect animals that are overlooked and endangered. We need them.”
