Carrie Blackwood is coming to meet Orcas Island on the afternoon of Friday June 14. She will be here to have lunch at the Senior Center and do some doorbelling, then she will meet and greet on the Village Green.

Carrie is a kick-butt workplace fairness lawyer, a former Union Negotiator
and a mom. She is a fierce advocate for fixing Climate Change with the
skills and experience to guide our district through the coming rapid
transition away from fossil fuels. She is also the first Latinx candidate
for senate ever in the 40th LD. This is a really big deal because of the
large and growing Latinx population in the Skagit County portion of our
district. We still have Republicans in local government over there, but
the future is coming soon to a neighborhood near you.
Carrie’s very real life story started with a birth mother tough enough to swim the Rio Grande in labor to be with Carrie’s American father. Her journey took her through poverty, foster care, adoption by a loving mom who had to hide a life-partnership for fear of getting dishonorably discharged, her own drug addiction, dropping out of school, and the choices and opportunities that led to her life as a Lawyer and Advocate for Environmental and Social Justice. She enjoys the endorsement of leaders from the Lummi Nation as well as Community leaders from all corners of the 40th. She is a practical, problem solving, Figure-Out-How person who knows from her own life that very little is impossible if you are willing to do the work.
