The public is invited to take a break from a busy Orcas July 4th weekend and meet Lt. Governor candidate Steve Hobbs and Rick Hughes at the Inn at Ship Bay July 2 from 2 to 4:30 p.m.

I’m curious why my bank is a sponsor of this event. I will find out.
I’m curious as to why this is being held at The Inn at Ship Bay. That’s a spendy place. Are there no public meeting rooms available? Even if the room and whatever else is being donated, unlikely as the article lists sponsors, it is an expensive donation. I’d be a lot more receptive of a candidate if they weren’t holding a meet and greet at one of the more expensive locations around. Given all the recent attention to getting the money out of politics, this seems like a rather tone deaf action on the part of Senator Hobbs.
…And I’m curious as to whether this guy is just another … Democrat who sticks to the party line, or whether he is capable of independent thought and action.
My partner Sharon Abreu and I did not like the idea of our bank supporting a political candidate. In pursuing this, we ended up speaking with Brad Williamson, CEO of Islanders Bank. He assured us that the bank as an organization is not sponsoring this event, and he is going to speak with the Hobbs campaign to ensure that it is only himself (Mr. Williamson) who is listed in future communications from the campaign, and not the bank.
