By Linda Sheridan, Orcas Rec Coordinator
Madison Pollock, age 8, donated $61 in cash last week to the Orcas Island Rec Program. Madison raised the money from her time in front of the Farmers Market selling pencil drawings she made herself (see [intlink id=”letter-to-the-editor-support-formation-of-orcas-parks-and-recreation-district” type=”post”]letter to the editor[/intlink] by Janet Brownell and Lance Evans).
She then slipped the money under our door at the Senior Center with a note explaining what she did and that she hoped it would “help our program”.
Madison has been in soccer, violin, theater, and pottery classes through Orcas Rec in the past.
This is the second time we have had a youngster donate money to Orcas Rec this year. Our first was from Paris Wilson, who played violin at the farmers market for donations and then gave her proceeds to Orcas Rec.
We appreciate all donations big and small, and I think it is especially amazing that youngsters like Madison and Paris would take the time to raise money for Orcas Rec. What thoughtful and wonderful young ladies!
To top it off, a few Islanders have now made matching $61 donations to Madison’s efforts. We have been calling these donations the “Madison Match” and we hope they keep rolling in!
If you would like to match Madison’s donation of $61 please send checks to Orcas Island Rec Program, PO Box 1644 Eastsound WA 98243. We appreciate your support no matter how big or small!
