Mask similar to ones which will be made in Olga Strawberry Council - Orcas Center Mask-Making workshops

In cooperation with the Orcas Center, the Olga Strawberry Council is holding two workshops on mask making lead by Diane Trapp, a renowned mask maker and talented instructor of the craft. Diane has been making masks for almost 30 years, and her work is seen in stage productions, masked balls, Halloween and dancing on the streets of New Orleans.

With the Solstice parade on June 20, and the 4th of July parade right after, opportunities to wear your own custom-created mask are immediate! The 4-day workshop will incorporate making masks from your own facial contours. The 3-day workshop will use wooden heads as mask forms. To see more of Diane’s creations, go to www.illusionarydesigns.com.

The first, four-day Workshop runs from  June 13 through 16, and costs $180 (includes all materials)

The second, three-day Workshop runs from June 17 through 19and costs $140 (includes all materials)

Both workshops will be held at the Orcas Center and are limited to 10 participants per workshop.

The workshop flier and registration form may be downloaded from their web site at www.olgastrawberrycouncil.org/workshops-masks.html. For further information, call Jan Reid at 376-4956

In conjunction with the above adult workshops, Orcas Center Summer Theater Camp features mask making and storytelling with masks for children.

Children ages 6 and older can sign up for the two-part Summer Theatre Camp extravaganza of mask-making and creative storytelling using the masks the children have made.

Diane Trapp will be making masks with the children June 22 to 24.  Then on June 25 to July 3, Mik Kuhlman from UMO Theatre is going to facilitate the children in creating a story using their masks for a performance on July 3 on Center Stage (which may incorporate adults in masked cameos, from Diane’s other mask-making classes with adults.)

Orcas Center Summer Camp Tuition is $200 per child ages 6 and older, including teens. There are a few partial scholarships available.
