It is said that music warms the soul. The holidays are brightened when you share music with your friends and neighbors. The best way to do that is to attend the free concert by the Orcas Island Community Band, Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Orcas Center.

The Band welcomes new director Martin Lund for this concert.

The Band consists of approximately 35 members – an impressive number when you consider that’s about one percent of Orcas Island’s population. Established in 1990, the Band is very fortunate to have representation in all instrumental sections (an oboe and bassoon, too), plus representation from musicians aged 15-80.

In days gone by, before computers, ipods, and Internet, the only form of entertainment was live musical performances — often by community bands. Orcas is proud to have such a fine band and hopes everyone will bring a friend to the concert to listen to music of the holiday season, plus some special tunes like a vintage 1960’s selection performed by a trombone trio and a trumpet solo on “Concierto de Aranjuez”.

A crowd favorite is the audience sing-a-long to carols and afterwards, the Band provides to the audience a free dessert party in the spirit of the holiday season!
