On Tuesday, Oct. 13, Dr Joe Gaydos of the SeaDoc Society will present a lecture, “The Western Grebe: a vanishing icon,” as the first in a series of marine lectures.

The Marine Science Lecture Series is presented by program partners The SeaDoc Societyand YMCA Camp Orkila. It is made possible through generous sponsorship by Tom Averna, Deer Harbor Charters, The Gould Family Foundation and co-sponsorship by Barbara Brown, Eclipse Charters, Jim and Kathy Youngren, Shearwater Kayaks, The Kingfish Inn and West Sound Marina, Inc.

Nov. 10 –  “Whales, echolocation and noise” by Jason Wood, The Whale Museum

Dec. 8 – “Sharks of the San Juan Islands” by Gene Helfman, U of Georgia. Also Family Night; a free dinner is served at 5 p.m., program starts at 7 p.m.
Jan. 12 – “There is no such thing as a sea gull” by Thor Hanson, Author & Biologist
Feb. 9 – “Tracker dogs: saving killer whales” by Katherine Ayers, U of Washington
March 9 – “Super Suckers: Giant Pacific Octopus & other cephalopods” by Tim Carpenter, Seattle Aquarium.
The 2009/10 marine science lecture series is free for the general public. The program begins at 7:00 PM at the Camp Orkila Marine Salmon Center. Please park in the upper parking lot at Camp Orkila. Shuttle service from the parking lot to the talk is available before and after the lecture.
