League of Women Voters of the San Juans
The League of Women Voters of the San Juans will host Felicity Green of Lopez Island at the September membership meeting next Monday, Sept. 16 from noon to 2 p.m.
Felicity Green is a member of the international organization “Transitions” She will speak about the history of the Transitions movement and its member groups on Lopez Island.
The Transition Town movement was started by Rob Hopkins in Totnes, England, and has since spread worldwide.
“The Transition concept is one of the big ideas of our time,” says Patrick Holden, director of the Soil Association. “Peak oil and climate change can so often leave one feeling depressed and disempowered. What I love about the Transition approach is that it is inspirational, harnessing hope instead of guilt, and optimism instead of fear.”
In the United States, Transition US works closely with the Transition Network, a UK-based organization that supports the Transition Movement worldwide.
There will be ample time for questions from the audience. Beverly Zapalac will introduce the speaker.
The meeting will be at the San Juan Island Public Library.
