— from Val and Leslie Veirs —

As the holiday season continues and the Mount Grant Campaign nears its goal (only $25,000 to go), community members have a unique gift-buying opportunity. The charming Book of Birds, written and illustrated by 7th grade student scientists of Sharon Massey of Spring Street International School, is now for sale.  It is proving to be a very useful book – small enough to go in a backpack, durable, and helpful in identifying 76 species of birds.  Individuals are buying these books as stocking stuffers, as hostess gifts, as regular gifts, and more.  All proceeds from the sales of these unique books will go to the Mount Grant Campaign (as requested by the young authors).

The Book of Birds can be purchased in stores around town, through Sharon Massey at Spring Street International School, the San Juan Preservation Trust office, or Ray’s Pharmacy on Orcas.  Checks should be made out to San Juan Preservation Trust, with “Mount Grant Campaign” written on the explanatory line of the check, and sent to:  San Juan Preservation Trust, PO Box 759, Friday Harbor, WA  98250.  Also, contributions in any amount can be made directly to the Preservation Trust.

Buying a book goes beyond giving it as a personal gift to a friend or relative.  Helping acquire Mount Grant is a gift to our community which will benefit everyone for generations to come.
