A selection from the many pieces of artwork that will be auctioned at the Funhouse, beginning this Friday afternoon.

A reception at The Living Room in Eastsound on Friday, June 5, will kick off two days of a silent art auction to benefit The Funhouse.

This unique silent auction will include an eclectic mix of paintings, sculptures, posters and other collectible items that have been donated to The Funhouse over the years by benefactors.

Pete Moe, Funhouse Director, emphasizes the variety of artwork in the collection that has trickled in over the years. “We want people to know we do our best to get the most value possible form their gifts to explore the Funhouse.

“We’re certainly grateful to those who donate objects of value to support the Funhouse and are happy to do our best to realize their full value,” says Moe.

As an example of the due diligence given to researching each artwork’s value, Moe points out a famous Morris Grave “bird” sketch, that, when signed, has brought in around $3,000. Although the sketch is validated to be an authentic Morris Graves’ work, it is worth less because it is unsigned.

The silent auction will be held over the course of two days, commencing with a reception on Friday June 5th from 5 to 8 p.m., at The Living Room in Eastsound. Bidding will continue through the next day, ending at 5 p.m. on Saturday June 6th.

Moe urges islanders not to miss this rare opportunity to obtain exceptional pieces of art while supporting the island children.

And he reminds Funhouse members to keep their annual memberships current — $50 for individuals and $100 for families.

The Funhouse will be open every day Monday through Saturday, beginning July 1, with daily admission of $7.

Adults interested in being a part of the Funhouse are encouraged to join the board, volunteer during after school hours and at Teen Nights, and to play “handyman” at the various displays and exhibits at the Funhouse. Call 376-7177.
