The Orcas Island Library Board is beginning to review applications for the upcoming opening for a new Trustee. However, the Board would like to invite anyone else who is interested to apply this week.
The Orcas Island Public Library is seeking a new trustee to begin serving for five years beginning Jan. 1, 2015. The board comprises five members who have the charge of planning the direction of library services, reviewing and updating policies, and overseeing the library’s expenditure of funds. Additionally, the trustees have the exciting task of working together on the Orcas Island Library Building Expansion Project: Books and Beyond.
Serving on the library board requires a passion and talent for teamwork, along with a belief in the importance of the mission of public libraries. We are interested in attracting individuals who enjoying learning with and from each other. New trustees bring new ideas, inspiration, and energy to Orcas’s top-notch library board.
As the trustees’ handbook states, “Throughout our nation’s history, the public library has offered free and equal access to the collected knowledge, information, and history of our culture.” Serving as a trustee for the Orcas Public Library enables an individual to contribute to a crucial democratic institution.
