Public lands’ use by Mustangs pose challenging questions. Come see the award-winning film today!
Did you know that in the 1800’s more than 2 million horses roamed the west? Today less than 33,000 mustangs live on public lands. Compare those 33,000 horses with 3 million privately owned cattle – who are competing for the same grasses! Many herd management areas have been closed and there are more mustangs held in long term holding pens than in the wild. The solutions are complicated – come learn more about it!
On Saturday, Nov. 17 at the library at 4:30, there will be a viewing of a film about the wild horses on the BLM land, with the film maker, Mara Legrand. This 30 minute film won the BEST NATURE FILM of the year and has been shown on PBS. Here is a chance to meet the film maker and hear first hand her stories about the mustangs in the wild.

Thank you Kate! One way to help wild horses and more wildlife such as wolves, cougars, and buffalo is to encourage Sen. Maria Cantwell to sponsor the Rural Economic Vitalization Act, which provides a framework for ranchers to retire their grazing permits on public lands in exchange for compensation from private entities.
