Please vote YES to form a Park and Recreation district for Orcas Island. Organized and well-run activities for children and adults keep a community connected in the best of ways. Orcas Rec has done this for many years and it would be to the detriment of our Island if we were to lose that kind of programming. I believe that the people who have worked together to bring this district to the ballot deserve our thanks and our vote.
I feel they will give their best and all they have to offer. I will be giving my vote especially to Marian O’Brien, in particular. I’ve known Marian as my neighbor, and have had long discussions with her about her involvement in many, many things since she moved here with her family. We are lucky to have such a devoted, kind and generous citizen wanting to help bring this district into being. She has a long and impressive history before coming to Orcas, of helping to develop children’s arts, education and recreation programs, and of being so involved in helping out wherever she is needed. She’s ethical and really bright. We’d be getting a great person on board, and I hope you will join me in giving Marian your vote.
