Thank you to the Orcas Island firefighters, emergency personnel and all who supported them on the early morning of July 19th. One of our buildings was the other fire that night. Our Willis Lane fire was called in shortly after the call for the fire at the Artworks and units were dispatched to us immediately. Their quick response controlled and extinguished the fire before it spread into overhanging trees and became a much more dangerous situation.
Because of the suspicious nature of the fire, firefighters stayed on beyond the time it took to extinguish it and be sure it wouldn’t reignite, all of it volunteer time.
We on Orcas are very fortunate to have so many fellow islanders who selflessly volunteer their time, energy and expertise at the risk of their own personal safety to keep the rest of us safe.
Thanks to you all,
Jim and Betsy Nelson

I also want to thank the fire department and
the volunteers and to remind the public to be
vigilant.
This evening an illegal fire was reported in
my area and it is time for everybody to be
responsible and report any illegal activities.
