Washington voters have an opportunity to reverse decades of harm caused by marijuana prohibition.
Study after study has confirmed that marijuana is safer than alcohol, healthier than tobacco. Yet we have arrested tens of thousands of Washingtonians for nonviolent, small-quantity marijuana offenses.
Initiative 502 would legalize, tax, and regulate marijuana for adults 21 and over. It would yield roughly half a billion dollars annually in excise taxes, most of it for drug education, prevention, and treatment. Regulated legalization would make our communities safer and healthier, especially for our children and teens.

How will it make our children and teens safer? Do you mean that if made legal they won’t get caught and in legal trouble. I am not against Medical POT, don’t get me wrong if you are suffering from one of the many painful end of life problems. I do believe making it legal and taxing the crap out of it as they do cigarettes… would be great…
But let me get something quite clear to you and others there is no legit Medical study approved by the FDA MDA or any other published medical authority that states any of the following;
Cures cancer,
Does not cause lung cancer
Makes any and all pain better
Again I am also for making it legal, but to state it will make it safer for people to use is I believe the WRONG wording. How about it will allow those who do use it to do so without threat of legal problems.
Norm did not say that 502 would make marijuana safer to use, although that potential is certainly there. When I smoked many decades ago there was always the concern of getting marijuana that was laced with unknown substances. If marijuana were commercial made and sold, presumably with some level of oversight as is done with alcohol and other drugs, a consumer could be more certain of the contents of the product.
What norm DID say was that it would make our communities safer and healthier. I agree with him. Since many of the most dangerous and damaging aspects of drug use are as a result of it’s illegality, legalizing it would remove those factors.
So my question stands how will it make the community safer…..Jim says by making the ability to make Pot not laced with other stuff. I ask then will there be no one out there growing and lacing it with stuff…that is just a question…I want to know how making it legal will make the community and children safe, and telling me that it wont be laced is an unknown. once legal so many people will be growing it how do we know it will be safe…
