Children’s House is a preschool early learning center serving Orcas Island families since 1969; it is the oldest preschool on the island and the only school on Orcas licensed to provide care for infants.

Children’s House helps to preserve the sustainability of our unique Island by giving working families an early learning preschool for their young children. Each year, our annual fundraising event has been cooking classes featuring local, regional and nationally recognized chefs, and this year is no different, with the exception of a few new venues, and several new locations for you to experience.

We begin the season with Susan and Ted Aspinall of Kathryn Taylor Chocolates, exploring the variety, preparation, and tastes of this delicious ingredient. Other local chefs include Bill Patterson, of Chimayo Restaurant, tempting our palates with pasta preparations, and our own venerable Chef, Christina Orchid, who will be preparing an exciting menu for us to enjoy, as well as holding a Kids Culinary Camp for children 8 years and older on two consecutive Saturdays in May.

John Steward at Maple Rock Farm, will introduce us to the fine art of preparing and cooking pizza in his very own wood burning pizza oven. In addition to our local chefs, we have an outstanding number of regionally and nationally recognized chefs contributing to our efforts. Jerry Traunfeld of Poppy in Seattle, will be with us; Allison Nelson and Sarah Munson of Seattle will team up with the new chef of The Outlook Inn, Steve Debaste, to teach us how to pair wines with cheese; Molly Wizenberg and Branden Pettit of Delancey’s in Seattle will be here in June.

Our popular Farm to Table Feast will be held at the Red Rabbit Farm on July 6th and two days later on the 8th of July, we welcome nationally recognized chef Tom Douglas of Dalia Lounge (Lola, Ettas and others) in Seattle.

Tickets for any or all of the events are available at Children’s House (at 376.4744), or can be purchased on-line at oich.org. Remember, in addition to experiencing great food and wonderful company, you’ are contributing to the future of our children.

Thank you,

Dale Heisinger,
President, Children’s House Board of Directors
