I read about the community service that all the candidates have done. I read about the commitment to this Orcas Island and I find little to show me what kind of leadership they have exhibited.
I have watched Lisa Byers introduce a new way of leadership, consensus, into a large group of people that may never have heard the word and made this process work. I have watched her make their dream a living possibility. How many people do you know who now have housing and real community because of her ability to lead toward this dream. The people who live and work here could not have stayed here if it wasn’t for the constant perseverance she has exhibited in her job as the executive director of OPAL. Of course she has not done this alone. It has been her ability to develop a strong board and solid funding base that has built this island community.
I am voting for Lisa Byers because she has showed me that she can fix a huge problem. Her tenacity will fix this broken government. We need her now.
Well said! As a friend and an OPAL homeowner who has had a chance to see observe her personally and in the context of OPAL for well over a decade, I could not agree more. Lisa is sharp thinking, solution oriented, and knows how to get to the heart of an issue while encouraging win-win outcomes for the problems she tackles. If and when she is elected, it will be the whole county’s gain.
I couldn’t agree more with the above.
It will be a sad day if the County loses this chance to have, without personal posturing, a true consensus builder, a clear thinker and leader.
