I am pleased to support Rick Hughes for San Juan County Council. Our county faces many important issues that need the support of our state legislature. We need to ensure our County’s voice is heard and part of the conversation during the biennial budget cycle. We need our state government to support our broken ferry system that is wreaking havoc with our community’s lives and livelihoods. We need their help to fund important infrastructure projects including affordable housing. Rick’s relationships in Olympia, built over his prior two terms as a council member, will allow him to hit the ground running without a learning curve.
During Rick’s tenure on the county council, the town and county worked together and accomplished economies of scale through many interlocal agreements. As a member of the Friday Harbor Town Council, I look forward to a renewed county and town collaboration.
As a small business owner on Orcas Island, Rick understands the realities and challenges of running a business in a seasonal economy and how the lack of workforce housing impacts business. He supports a diverse resilient economy with balanced growth and sustainable tourism.
