— from David Kobrin —
Among those many folks who are working assiduously to care for our island’s residents during these frightening times, I want to give a special “shout out” to those people working in Island Market.
Despite the extra work burdens required to make shopping at the market safe, they continue to serve customers efficiently, and with good will.
And despite the concerns they surely must share with the rest of us concerning their own health, and that of their families, they continue to be helpful, and pleasant.
And despite the shortage of many items, and the delays in the supply chain over which they have limited control at best, they continue to be informative, realistic, and positive.
I am grateful to all those working daily at our Island Market.

Well said, David – I wholeheartedly agree – and thank them all.
I couldn’t agree more, David. They deserve our copious thanks. Thank you for writing it.
All the facilities that are open for business, food stores, hardware stores, take out food, pharmacy, convenience store, gas supply, etc
These folks are what makes this community a great place to live. We should have a celebration in the summer.
What all of you said! A big summer party sounds like a great idea — hopefully we’ll all be able to hug each other by then!
Yes, thank you very much for keeping this most valuable supply chain working, for the benefit of many if not most islanders, and at some considerable risk to yourselves. Please wear your masks, too.
Another ditto, David. Well said.
I want to start by saying I appreciate that the store is open, all the hard work the staff is doing, and the care that goes along with all this effort. I will say though, that I left the store confused today. There were a lot of workers in the store associated with the remodel. I saw a couple island resident tradesmen I recognized who were wearing masks and gloves and maintaining space. The others appeared to be associated with a roofing crew that were not. I encountered 2 of the roofing crew workers at the back of the store who appeared to be on a lunch break. One had a mask but had it pulled down around his chin. The one without a mask at all opened one of the refrigerators after brushing past me to get to it. Given that the store staff and most shoppers were wearing masks and keeping distance as much as possible, it made me wonder why a lot of the remodel crew were not. I also wonder if they have been required to wait in line at the main entry and wash hands before shopping.
