Visiting Orcas Island is magical but staying here long-term means taking calculated risks with transportation, medical services, housing, and something we don’t talk about a lot – isolation. Making new friends as an older adult can seem daunting. But making and keeping connections help combat that risk of isolation, which is increased for those older adults living alone or far from family. Orcas Senior Center (OSC) provides a vital connection to companionship and support.

I’m not quite an older adult, yet I’ve benefited from OSC in connecting me with our community. From fitness classes to educational courses to nutritious meals, OSC offers a range of programs tailored to meet the diverse needs and interests of our entire island population. OSC has become the center of my Orcas universe, and I am honored to serve on its board of directors.

OSC is a nonprofit and is not funded by tax dollars. Please learn more about its programs and how all of us can support its Capital Campaign at http://tinyurl.com/OSCBuildingFund.
