— from Tina Whitman for Salmonberry School —

Salmonberry School’s faculty, staff, students and families would like to thank everyone who supported our recent energy efficiency upgrades.  Over the winter break, ductless heat pumps were installed in the kindergarten, primary and intermediate classrooms, reducing our carbon footprint, lowering heating costs and improving classroom comfort.

The project, installed by local contractors Streamside Renewables, Bion Island Plumbing and Sea Run Electric, was made possible thanks to the generous support of our community.  OPALCO supported the project with grant funds as well as rebates, Sustainable Connections provided energy efficiency incentives through their commercial Community Energy Challenge program and individual Orcas community members donated to the project through the GiveOrcas holiday campaign.  We are so appreciative of this strong support for island youth and clean energy- thank you!
