Letter to Editor | Not because Rick Hughes is my friend

I’m writing in support of Rick Hughes for County Council, and not just because Rick Hughes is my friend!

I’ve known Rick for many years, going back to when I was President of the Chamber of Commerce. During those years, we would occasionally disagree from time to time, but he always had the community’s best interests at heart, and we always parted as friends. He worked hard to support our local small businesses and the Orcas Chamber.
Rick is a kind and caring individual, who loves Orcas and the people who live here.

When he was a county council member he exhibited great leadership abilities. I worked with him on several issues, and he always listened and tried to propose changes that would benefit the entire County. He was interested in issues of interest to women. Rick is the only candidate to be endorsed by Planned Parenthood. He is a critical and
forward thinker. He understands the issues that our County faces.

When Rick first ran for County Council, I did not hesitate to vote for him. Since then, I have seen him help people and address issues. He has earned the right to serve us again, and I will vote to return him to the Council.
