I believe elected officials should understand what it means to walk in the shoes of the people they represent. That means knowing what it's like to work multiple jobs to pay the bills, and to worry about affording healthcare and keeping a roof over their heads. For many people in this county, a steady paycheck, affordable healthcare, and a secure home are not givens. Worrying about them keeps families up at night. I want a leader who knows what our neighbors are dealing with, and the best way to know that is to have lived it.
Katherine is that person for San Juan County Council, District 3. She is the daughter and granddaughter of public educators and college administrators and has worked hard to get where she is today. Until last year, she was still working multiple jobs, including being a waitress at Haven on Lopez. Her husband is a county park ranger. They bought a fixer before prices climbed even higher after the pandemic. They are still making the repairs and renovations themselves. They know they were one of the lucky ones.
Of everything Katherine has done for her community, nothing stands out more than her leadership as president of the Catherine Washburn Medical Association. She and her team secured Sea Mar as a long-term healthcare provider for the Lopez Island Healthcare District, and she oversees the Association’s budget and its $4.5 million endowment.
This is the type of person I want leading our county forward. I’m voting for Katherine for San Juan County Council, District 3, and I hope you will too.
