Letter to Editor | Katherine Bryant-Ingman gets things done

We are writing in support of Katherine Bryant-Ingman’s candidacy, for the District 3 seat on the San Juan County Council, representing residents of Lopez, Shaw and Decatur islands.

We quickly endorsed Katherine for the District 3 seat of the SJC Council. District 3 is the district that represents the county residents that reside on the less tourist visited islands as well as the district that has less small businesses, especially ones with store fronts. The two candidates are from different islands, and I really feel that, in order to relate to your constituents, you ought to be able to relate to those small businesses and tourism businesses that you will be making impactful decisions for. And although Lopez and Shaw have less of these industries, Lopez has far more, and Katherine is involved with these folks and works in the trenches with them daily.

Katherine has been an integral part of the Lopez Island community; she has been a key part of helping implement some key initiatives like the food bank and healthcare for their island residents. She has managed large budgets, which is vital in the role she will fill in the council. I don’t feel the other candidate from Shaw has that same relationship with these folks, nor does she herself work in the trenches with her community, thereby not able to relate to the plights of the people she will be serving.
