||| FROM JOHN HOWLIND |||
As a retired EMS Chief and Operations Battalion Chief for Orange County Fire, I know what it takes to have a successful, efficient and effective fire/EMS program.
To be successful, all aspects of the operations need effective, strong, and competent leadership matched with appropriate resources. That leadership starts from the support of the Fire Commission down to every level of the organization.
A strong Fire Commission provides that leadership while being the voice of the community it serves. We need a transparent, respectful, vision oriented commission that listens while providing accountability to the entire organization.
I have known Kate Hanson from the time she was just a cute little girl. She has grown into a strong leader that is a great listener, with great communication skills and a problem solving mindset. I believe Kate is exactly the kind of person that Orcas Fire needs at this time.
Although Kate does have all the skills necessary to be successful, I think her most important asset is that she truly cares. As a third generation islander she is vested in making Orcas Fire work. Both for its members and the community.
Kate has my full confidence and I encourage you to give her your vote to do what is necessary to get Orcas Fire/EMS back on track to successfully meet its mission.
