Knowing Rick for nine years, I can’t think of anyone better to represent Orcas on the San Juan County Council than Rick Hughes. In 2020, I wholeheartedly endorsed Rick in an editorial, this time in a letter. Rick brings experience, enthusiasm and empathy. While serving in the role previously, he was exceedingly transparent and truly listened to the voices from all islands — not just Orcas. Rick brings with him experience and passion for serving his community. He was instrumental in bringing quality improvements to Orcas Island, including (but certainly far from limited to) working with Washington State Ferries to get us the park and ride. 

He’s also been a dependable employer for many on Orcas (full disclosure, myself included!) and a reliable and supportive friend. I believe if Rick Hughes is on the ballot, it would be a mistake to vote for anyone else. Please, join me in supporting Rick Hughes for San Juan County Council #2.
