— from Justin Paulsen —
There’s a spirit in that exists in small communities that ties the people of those communities together. That spirit is not bounded by any city limit, county line or even by a body of water.
It is this spirit and sense of community that brought the athletes of Orcas Island to the streets of Eastsound to raise money and bring awareness to the plight of their counterparts in the Darrington/Oso area. Anyone who was in Eastsound yesterday experienced this spirit.
For two brief, but important, hours, Viking athletes, coaches and parents set down their bats, helmets and golf clubs and hit the streets in a big way. Thanks to their efforts and your generosity the Viking spirit raised over $5100 (and more coming in!) to help with the relief efforts.
Your contributions will all go along way to helping with this disaster. More importantly, the spirit of the Orcas community has been sent loud and clear to our friends and neighbors.
Thank you all for all for your contributions, thoughts and prayers and …
