While we often have seen many acts of kindness and caring during this pandemic period, particularly helping those in need, I was very touched by my experience at Orcas Center today getting my vaccine shot.

The Air National Guard unit that was here was so incredibly professional and gracious and efficient! The staff and volunteers from OIFR were very helpful from the beginning to the end. The staff of Orcas Center was also helping guide people through the process. Gordon and Anita were serenading the folks who were waiting to see if they had any adverse effects, singing a medley of songs with the word “shot” in them (“Hit Me with Your Best Shot”; “I Shot the Sheriff”; etc. One of the Sisters from Shaw was there and she was rocking with the medley. And, as always, there was Velma working hard sterilizing seats and welcoming folks she knew (which was just about everyone).

We who were getting vaccinated were feeling good about an important step back toward a more normal life. But it especially felt good to be part of a community like ours with people like these, including our new friends in the Guard.

Thank you all for your goodness.
