— from Carol Owens —

Time to address the issue of beheadings and mindless plunder occurring in our normally gentle Eastsound.

Someone, presumably a village idiot lurking around in the evenings, is intent on beheading every bloom in every carefully maintained garden in Eastsound. Teri Williams’ tulips were the first victims, the Historical Museum garden—in particular a rare tree peony— was next, and all the roses around Cherry T’s soon after.

This is not just someone who just cannot do without that gorgeous blossom, these poor flowers lost their heads in the height of their beauty, CUT, —therefore intentionally—then discarded. Not taken home to grace the table, not arranged in a bouquet presented to a loved one; no, just tossed away. Losing their seedful contribution to future generations, witlessly, (vengefully?), meanly stealing beauty from the usual summer Eastsound lushness.

I move that we nominate a posse, catch this monster, and dole out punishment.. Nothing less than hauling chicken poop and compost tea and fertilizing every plant in Eastsound—for five years. And presenting an hour talk to the Orcas Garden Club, giving the reasons for the careless rape of the landscape.

JUST CUT IT OUT, YOU!
