This week, Mike [Hurwicz] and I and a few others from the San Juan Islands will be joining a 4-day walk in British Columbia, through the territories of the Lekwungen (Songhees and Xwsepsum/Esquimalt), W̱SÁNEĆ, səlil̓wətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Coast and Straits Salish Nations, to support the much-needed Indigenous-led resistance against the Kinder Morgan pipeline(s) and big oil, gas and coal in general.
(Mike and I will be walking the first day, this Thursday, from Victoria to the Tsawout First Nation, and playing some music at Tsawout that evening.)

“Pull Together” is a campaign using the same strategy that beat Enbridge and protected Cherry Point, a sacred Lummi site, from being developed into a coal terminal. Sharon and Mike. Thank you for bringing your effort to our attention. Aside from your specific and very fine example of potential harm, the spectra of damage that continues to flow from the continued use and reliance on fossil fuels should wake even those in that very industry up. There’s simply no future, pun intended, in the continued reliance on fossil fuels and the only real impediment now is our own sheer will (or lack of it). The combined alternative sources of clean energy and technologies have been achieved. Only our sheer lack of will, “centrifugal” resistance to change and failure to make this one of those “dinner table” talking points and priorities throughout the households of America keep us from reaching the crtical mass necessary to break into a new orbit of thinking. Fossil fuels represent lessons used and learned in the past but not the fruit of our discovery of cleaner technology that’ll save our butts in the future. Not embracing our own clear and convincing discovered knowledge and undeniable evidence is pathological behavior. Our species got this far by adapting. Lets not stop now. I’ll contribute and I’m switching to Solar but we need this message to reach critical mass or the problems will become keeping sacred lands above the ocean’s new sea level and having air to breath, potable water to drink and resources on-hand to deal with mass migratory movements of people who have been displaced due directly to our behavior that will be beyond anything imaginable– all because of what we do now and the choices we make today.
