— from Bill Severson —
My name is Bill Severson, running for the OPALCO Board of Directors.
A longtime resident of the San Juans and a retired Electrical Engineer, I offer the clear choice to return our focus to energy. Why should we send all our money for electricity to eastern Washington? Let’s keep those dollars here. I’m all about local renewable energy.
Please go to the OPALCO website and click on my name, read my Bio, watch my Candidate Forum talk and in the Q&A section read my answers to your questions.

OPALCO’s business model seems flawed. We are penalized for conserving by seeing higher and higher rates. Even if we were to disconnect our homes from the grid for a period of time we would still be charged the base rate which I am guessing is around $40 a month. I installed all LED lighting in my home, replacing the old fashioned filament bulbs and my bill has actually increased.
This is a failed business model for conservation. When and if future technologies allow for a complete disconnection in a northern clime with solar PV’s and Powerwalls from Elon Musk and when we have more than one vendor on the island installing solar PV’s I will switch.
