Orcas Island audiences will have a rare chance to see one of the Northwest’s most inventive soul/rock groups. LeRoy Bell and His Only Friends will perform at Orcas Center on Friday, October 2 at 7:30 pm.
Guitarist and singer/songwriter LeRoy Bell performs with “His Only Friends” – Terry Morgan on bass and Davis Martin on drums. The group delivers a soulful, funk style of rock music that is uniquely theirs. Bell’s songs are inspired ballads that are intelligent and heartfelt and sung with soulful, easy charm. The accompanying instrumentation is nuanced and textured. This group deserves the committed fan base they have.
Bell started his career writing songs as part of Bell & James (Casey James). The duo are the authors of Elton John’s Grammy-nominated 1979 Top Ten hit, “Mama Can’t Buy You Love,” and Elton’s 2004 #1 British single “Are You Ready For Love”. Bell and James also attained top ten status with the dance hit, “Livin’ It Up Friday Night”. Bell & James also collaborated with legendary songwriter/producer Thom Bell (Leroy’s uncle) penning songs for The Spinners, The OJays, Rita Marley, The Temptations, Johnny Mathis, Phyllis Hyman and many more.
Only recently has LeRoy surfaced as the singer/songwriter he is today.
Tickets for the 7:30 pm concert are $24, $16 for Orcas Center members, and $10 for students. For more information or to purchase tickets, please visit www.orcascenter.org or call or 360/376-2281 ext 1 during box office hours, Thursday-Saturday, noon – 4 pm.
