Both running unopposed, Representatives Debra Lekanoff (she/her) and Alex Ramel (he/him) from the 40th Legislative District released the following statement on primary election day:
“We are honored and grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve this community. While we were unopposed in this election, we’ve continued to put our energy into listening to voters and bringing people together. The priorities we hear from the community will remain our priorities going forward: confronting the fentanyl crisis, stabilizing rents, science based water and energy policy, restoring reliable ferry service, and protecting reproductive freedom.”
Lekanoff was first elected in 2018. Ramel was appointed to fill a vacancy at the beginning of 2020, and won his first election in fall of 2020.
The 40th district includes southwest Whatcom County, northwest Skagit county and all of San Juan county, including parts of Bellingham and Mount Vernon, and all of Burlington, Friday Harbor, and Anacortes.
