The Orcas Community Resource Center, in partnership with the Orcas Community Health Care District, Orcas Island Fire & Rescue, and San Juan County, invites the community to a free public presentation on Thursday, October 22, from 6-7 pm at the Orcas Island Library to learn about the new Mobile Integrated Health (MIH) program.
The Mobile Integrated Health program represents an exciting step toward improving access to healthcare and essential services for Orcas Island residents. Through home-based visits and coordinated community partnerships, the program aims to identify health and social service needs, connect residents with appropriate resources, and help prevent situations from escalating into emergencies.
The program grew out of the collaborative work of the Orcas Community Health Network, which brings together local organizations committed to strengthening healthcare access and coordination across the island.
“Some of our most vulnerable community members face significant barriers to accessing the services they need,” said Erin O’Dell, Executive Director of the Orcas Community Resource Center. “This program creates an opportunity to reach people where they are, better understand their needs, and connect them with the support available in our community. It’s a great example of what we can accomplish when local organizations work together.”
During the presentation, members of the Mobile Integrated Health team will introduce the program, explain how it works, and share examples of the types of needs it is designed to address. Representatives from partnering organizations will discuss how community partnerships help connect residents with resources beyond their immediate healthcare needs.
The program is currently in its pilot phase, with referrals managed through internal pathways. The event is an opportunity to learn about the program, meet the people involved, and understand how services may expand as the program develops. Broader community referrals are not yet available, and no date has been established for expanding access.
The evening will also include an update on the Orcas Community Health Network and an opportunity for community members to ask questions.
