Presenting a new outdoor after-school program!
We are excited to announce a new program starting in March – Stepping Up!
Stepping Up is an outdoor exploration program for students in grades K-8, with different age groups meeting on different days weekly. The program will be held outdoors at The Funhouse and around Eastsound, and will consist of walks and hikes, beach excursions and more! Leadership skill development will be encouraged through games, activities, and discussions that focus on critical thinking and listening, social emotional development, and environmental and social justice issues.
For more info and to sign up, please contact Liz Doane at 360-376-7177 or liz@thefunhouse.org.
Mentor Program Scavenger Hunt
This is the third year of the Mentor Program Scavenger Hunt. This year, we are giving the option of scavenging online via Zoom or other platforms, or in person on socially distanced walks outside.
The Scavenger Hunt lasts a month, and will culminate with a celebratory Zoom with a slideshow and an awards ceremony. We’re very much looking forward to seeing all the fun activities our pairs get into!
Supporting Parents of Children Ages 0-2
The Funhouse is offering a drop-in Zoom support group for parents and guardians of children ages 0-2, starting Monday February 22! The 45 minute sessions will be an open space to share concerns, joys, tips and connections. Please email Liz Doane for the Zoom link at liz@thefunhouse.org, or call 360-376-7177.
A 6-week workshop for Orcas parents begins in March
Guiding Good Choices is a 6-week Zoom-based program to help parents create opportunities for bonding and promote clear standards for behavior, in order to reduce drug use and other risky choices. Sessions will be very interactive and hands-on, with small practices offered to try out between meetings.
Families will:
  • Learn how to build listening skills as parents
  • Learn how to establish clear standards for behavior in the household as children enter adolescence
  • Help their children make good choices when faced with challenging situations.
  • Practice ways to create time for family bonding that are fun and effective.
Sessions are interactive and skill-based. The program utilizes research-based strategies that focus on family bonding to reduce youth substance abuse and the influence of peer pressure.
The Funhouse will be holding 2 sessions of this program in English,
and one in Spanish (see below).
The first English session will be:
March 18-April 29th (pause taken for Spring Break)
Thursdays from 6:30pm-8pm

To sign up, contact Trillium Swanson at trillium@thefunhouse.org

Tutoring opportunity for Orcas Teens

The Funhouse Mentor Program is partnering with OISD to restart Teen Tutoring in March. During Zoom sessions held twice weekly, the program will focus on goal setting and creating connections between youth. Currently, 6 high school students are participating in the program, mentoring middle school students. We look forward to adding more students as the program progresses!
