WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) issued the following statement after the Russian government levied sanctions against Larsen and 397 other members of the U.S. House of Representatives:

“If supporting the Ukrainian people and standing up for the young democracy gets me sanctioned by Putin and the Russian government, I am honored,” said Larsen, a senior member of the Armed Services Committee.

“Whether it takes two days, two weeks, two months or two years, the situation in Ukraine is not over until an independent and sovereign Ukraine has its boundaries back and the continued freedom to choose its leaders and future. I will stand with Ukraine no matter how long it takes. Slava Ukraini!”

Larsen is a strong supporter of U.S. actions with allies and partners to help Ukraine defend itself and hold Putin accountable for his unprovoked war. In March, Larsen supported $13.6 billion in humanitarian, security and financial aid for Ukraine in the Fiscal Year 2022 spending package. Larsen also supports the ongoing ban on Russian oil and gas to further isolate the Russian economy. On Tuesday, President Biden announced an additional $800 million in weapons, ammunition and other security assistance to Ukraine.

Additionally, Larsen recently supported efforts to mitigate impacts from closures of Russian airspace to commercial and cargo flightswelcome more Ukrainian refugees to the United States and urge the Biden-Harris administration to work with international partners to provide aid to Ukrainian refugees.
