KING COUNTY, WA – On Friday, April 22, Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) joined President Biden at Seward Park in Seattle and Green River College in Auburn to emphasize the importance of protecting Washington state’s environment and lowering everyday costs for Northwest Washington’s working families.

“In the Second District, the impact of rising costs on working families and the threat of climate change are two of the top issues I hear about from my constituents,” said Larsen. “The President’s visit was an opportunity to keep these important issues at the forefront and emphasize the work Congress and the administration must continue to do to lower everyday costs for working families and to combat climate change.”

At Seward Park, the President signed an executive order to safeguard mature and old-growth forests on federal lands, strengthen reforestation partnerships across the United States and combat global deforestation. Later, the President delivered a speech at Green River College emphasizing the need to lower costs for working families, including lowering prescription drug costs for seniors and those who depend on lifesaving prescription drugs.

Larsen is focused on delivering bold, long-term investments to protect Washington’s environment and fight climate change. Last week, Larsen hosted an Earth Day telephone town hall with more than 3,700 constituents to answer questions about environmental issues facing Northwest Washington and ongoing efforts to combat climate change. Earlier in the week, Larsen announced Washington state will receive nearly $110 million over five years under the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to provide Washingtonians with more transportation options, ease congestion in local communities and reduce carbon pollution across the state.

Larsen also strongly supports meaningful efforts to lower costs for working families, including making permanent the expanded Child Tax Credit, providing access to safe, affordable child care, lowering prescription drug costs and increasing the availability of high-quality affordable housing through the construction and rehabilitation of more than 1 million affordable units nationwide.
