— from Stephanie Conner for San Juan Public Works —

It’s been said, if you turn your head for too long, you might just miss an entire course of the 1 – 2 ton behemoth blocks slide into place. The Contractor might make the work look easy, but San Juan County’s design for this wall is nuanced.

It’s not your average garden variety, modular block, gravity retaining wall. It’s got curves, steps, returns, and corners to keep it interesting. These characteristics are not meant to make building the wall a challenge or even just to give it a distinctive look; the plan is for it to be strong. This wall is going to be around for a while.

If you’re in the neighborhood, come see the progress.

As usual, thanks for being patient with the construction at the Orcas Landing Marine Facility and thanks for reading another Weekly Update.
