Recently, the high school at Orcas Christian School (OCS) went to Moran State Park for a campout, leaving the elementary students at school. Fortunately, they were still able to enjoy Lake Day on Thursday, participating in activities such as meeting new chapel buddies, rotating through stations around the lake, playground time, Capture the Flag, and swimming.
When the day began, each child was paired with a middle or high school student, which some kindergarteners said was one of their favorite parts of the day. Once the pairings were settled, everyone started participating in the stations, which included leaf collecting, scavenger hunts, bracelet making, and bingo. The kindergarteners’ favorite station was the scavenger hunt, while most third- and fourth-graders enjoyed bracelet making and bingo.
After the stations, the kindergarteners, first graders, and second graders got to play on the playground, having fun with their friends. The rest of the elementary students played Capture the Flag. One third grader said it was “really fun with all of the school,” while another added, “It was really fun, but my team cheated.”
The last activity was swimming, which all the children said was their favorite part of the day. Some third graders said they got to “swim past the teacher to the rope floats,” noting that “it wasn’t that deep.” The kindergarteners also enjoyed playing in the sand, using their imagination to build sand deserts.
Eventually, the day came to an end, with all the children cleaning up and gathering their belongings. While waiting for their parents to pick them up, they got to play on the playground again. After talking to the kids, it’s clear the day was a success, with everyone saying they had fun and wanted another Lake Day.
