Lahari is pleased to announce a new program to assist the elderly and infirm in their homes. Entitled “Orcas Safe Homes,” the objective is to assist Orcas Island residents in identifying and correcting safety and health hazards in the home.

The program, to begin in the New Year, is being conducted in cooperation with Orcas Island Fire and Rescue. It will consist of a FREE, extensive, in-home evaluation to identify specific fall hazards, electrical hazards, fire hazards, and other health and personal safety issues in the home.

Lahari will fund the cost of these evaluations. A set of recommendations is provided to the residents for their use in making their homes safer. There is no obligation on the part of the resident for this free evaluation.

Participating merchants and tradesmen are recommended and assistance is available to those who need help in contracting for work. Lahari will also provide financial assistance for those who are otherwise not able to afford to implement the recommendations.

Island residents who would like to schedule a home safety evaluation should call 1-888-685-1475 to schedule an appointment.

Lahari is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to provide educational resources and support to assist the aged and infirm on Orcas Island. Other programs supported by Lahari include grants to support volunteer in-home hospice care and scholarships for care-giver training.
