Aging on Orcas Island can be challenging. Having trained long term home caregivers can sometimes make the difference between staying in our homes or moving off the island. In order to help meet the growing need for local caregivers, Lahari has been sponsoring caregiver training and offering caregiver continuing education for the past three years is now announcing the 2018 Caregiver Training and Certification Program.
The program is budgeted for 10 students and pays for the online, 75 hour, Washington State DSHS approved course that prepare the students to take the Washington State Home Care Aide(HCA) certification exam. A $100 deposit is required to enroll, which is refunded upon successful completion of the course. In addition to sponsoring the training, Lahari encourages the students to become certified by reimbursing the off island travel expenses and fees associated with applying for and taking the exam, upon passing the exam.
Applicants to the Lahari HCA Training and Certification Program must attend the HCA Information Session. The mandatory session will be held on Monday, March 12, 2018, 6 – 7:30 p.m. at the Orcas Island Senior Center.
For more information about the program, or to register online for the information session, go to https://www.laharionorcas.org/home/hca-training-and-certification, or call 1-888-685-1475.
