Maddy Smith, Student Body Association President, announced to the Orcas Island School District board on Thursday evening that the Orcas Lady Vikings Basketball Team were victorious in their hard-fought win on Tuesday, Feb. 24 which guaranteed their spot at the State 2B Basketball Tournament.

The Vikings beat the SeaTac League #1 team, Evergreen Lutheran on Tuesday in Puyallup and will return to Puyallup this Saturday to face LaConner. That game — at 4:30 p.m. at Chief Leschi High School  — will determine the Vikings’ standing — first or second in the district. If they are victorious on Saturday, the Lady Vikings will bring home a banner to display at the high school.

Next week, the team will then go on to State Championships in Spokane. This is the first state competition for Orcas High School in 10 years. Their first game is on Wednesday, March 4.

A bake sale will be held at Island Market beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, March 2. Donations are gladly accepted.
