The Orcas High School Lady Vikings basketball team rebounded from a playoff setback against Friday Harbor to defeat the Darrington Loggers yesterday by a final score of 47-39. The team had traveled to a neutral site at the Sedro Woolley High School for a late afternoon game. The loser of the game drops out of the 2016 State Basketball Playoffs and the winner plays again this next Tuesday at the same location.
Katy Minnis lead the Lady Vikings, ripping the nets for 16 points. Her sister Emma contributed 9 more points, making it a good day for the Minnis family. The rest of the starting roster also played well according to Coach Greg Sasan with Bethany Hansen (7), Lilly Miller (5), Halle Thompson (7), and Sandy Rost (3) completing the scoring for the Orcas squad.
The other game from the schedule yesterday resulted in the LaConner Braves beating the Friday Harbor Wolverines, the same island team that defeated the Lady Vikings this past Wednesday. Having won two games in this round of the playoffs, the Braves move on to the next round.
The Wolverines and Lady Vikings square off again Tuesday, February 16 in a rematch. Coach Sasan expects his team to be fired up to avenge the earlier loss and advance into the next round. The game will start at about 4:45 p.m. and result in a late trip home for the team and the Orcas fans. For those fans traveling to the game by car, WSF reservations on the 7:10 p.m. ferry might be advised. The last ferry home is at 9:05 p.m.

Thanks Ed! There were indeed a couple of happy Minnis girls after that game!
