— from Lilly Miller for Kiwanis Club —

The Kiwanis Club of Orcas Island will help local children by hosting their annual yard sale fundraiser on August 29. The fundraiser will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the American Legion parking lot. The club is seeking new members.

“Join us at our service project and find out if Kiwanis is right for you,” said Lilly Miller. “We have a great team and enjoy planning our fundraisers, too. Our meetings often incorporate the youth programs we sponsor.” The club sponsors Key Club and Builders Club of Orcas Island.

Kiwanis values community most as well as supporting the youth of Orcas Island. Kiwanis provides opportunities to become involved in volunteer groups throughout the year. With 30 years of service on Orcas Island, Kiwanis invites the community to join their organization in
order to serve and expand our youth programs.

Over the years, the Kiwanis Club of Orcas Island has had many rummage sales, hosted the pancake breakfast at the Island Hardware, and supplied candy machines to local stores, all to raise money for projects benefiting their scholarships to graduating seniors. The Kiwanis has built toy cars for Santa’s bag at the tree lighting ceremony as well as helped the Lions Club local blood drive and many more activities that are now being hosted through Parks & Rec. programs.

What we have accomplished in the past brings us to what we can do in the future with your help.

Becoming a part of Kiwanis means joining a community of resourceful leaders that allow Orcas youths to transform into strong, honorable and courageous individuals.

Kiwanis is an international organization who has annual dues and weekly meetings, these times will be set according to member availability. Kiwanis members enjoy spending time with the youth and enjoying socials within the club. Kiwanis relies on membership to maintain their influence on our community, please consider joining and supporting your community through the club.

For information on how to participate, or join the Kiwanis Club of Orcas Island, please visit us at the American Legion on August 29 or contact Velma at 360-376-6847. With more Kiwanis club members, we can help more kids. And we know kids need our support. Can we count on you?
