The Kiwanis Club of Orcas Island, after 34 years of dedicated service to the children of Orcas Island and beyond through Kiwanis International, sadly announces that it will no longer be active on Orcas Island after October 2024.
The Good News: A Lasting Legacy
The Kiwanis Club of Orcas Island is excited to share a project update. In collaboration with Orcas Island Park and Recreation District, the club is initiating its final project – the installation of new playground equipment at Buck Park. This project marks the culmination of Kiwanis’ commitment to the well-being of Orcas Island’s youth.
Generously contributing the last of their resources, along with funds raised from the 2023 OICF Spring Catalog, Kiwanis kickstarted the procurement of state-of-the-art playground equipment, ensuring a safer and more enjoyable play area in Buck Park.
Kiwanis and Orcas Island Park and Recreation have scheduled a community build/work weekend to install the new playground equipment. Great Western Recreation will provide an onsite contractor to handle the structural aspects of the installation and guide the community build.
We need many helping hands to ensure the successful completion of this meaningful endeavor.
Please join us on March 15, 16, and 17 to be a part of the team that creates a lasting impact for the kids of Orcas Island. If you would like to be a part of this effort, please contact Terri Rodgers at 360-376-7275 or terri@oiprd.org.
Decades of Dedication and Community Impact
For decades, the Orcas Kiwanis Club has actively engaged in numerous projects supporting island-wide initiatives for youth and contributing to local organizations benefiting the young members of our community.
Regrettably, due to changing circumstances, members who have been integral to Orcas Kiwanis are unable to continue their involvement. The time has come for a new group to step forward and carry the torch for the sake of our youth. If you are passionate about maintaining Kiwanis as a vital organization on Orcas Island, please contact Velma Doty at 360-376-6847 or dvdotyorcas@gmail.com.
The Kiwanis Club of Orcas Island expresses deep gratitude to all past and present members, supporters, and contributors for their unwavering dedication to the well-being of our youth.
