Resources for grandparents and relatives raising children

||| FROM LENA KASSA for ORCAS SENIOR CENTER |||

Join us at Orcas Senior Center on Friday, September 26 at 1 p.m. for a presentation by the Opportunity Council’s Kinship Programs. Kinship care occurs when children are raised by grandparents, relatives, or close family friends in the absence of their biological parents. These programs provide vital support to families across Whatcom, Island, and San Juan Counties.

During this brief presentation, attendees will learn about two key resources for caregivers. Kinship Navigation offers information and referrals to help families access legal, financial, and community support. Kinship Caregiver Support Program provides emergency funds to assist caregivers in meeting urgent needs.

Whether you are a grandparent, relative, or close family friend caring for a child, this session offers guidance, resources, and support to help you navigate your caregiving journey. Contact the Opportunity Council’s Kinship Programs for more information and personalized assistance for your family.
