Sunday, March 15, 12 – 3 p.m., High School Gym
— from Maurice Austin for Key Club —
The 2020 Key Club Paper Airplane Contest will be held on Sunday, March 15 from 12 – 3 p.m. in the high school gym. Doors will open at 12 p.m. for people to start folding paper airplanes and the contest will officially begin at 1 p.m.
The competition will be split into three age groups; 6 and under, 7-11 and 12 and up and there will be competitions in accuracy, distance and time aloft. There will also be a competition for the most ‘highly decorated’ planes. Kids can spend time at home before the competition using any materials they like to make their most ‘highly decorated’ plane in order to wow the judges. Planes for the accuracy, distance and time aloft competitions will need to be folded in the high school from 12 to 1 p.m. on the day of the contest; materials will be provided.
The Orcas Island High School Key Club is a community service focused club, so the contest will have an optional admission fee of a food drive item for the Orcas Island Food Bank. Prizes and ribbons will be awarded at the contest and there will be a free raffle.
The Key Club will also be holding a paper airplane folding practice session at the public library on Sunday, March 8 from 12 – 2 p.m. During the session, Key Club members will help anyone who is interested practice fold paper airplanes in preparation for the Key Club Paper Airplane Contest. The Key Club is excited to continue the tradition of holding a fun, airplane-centered event, and hopes to see you there!
