— from Nick and Sara Jones —

The Lummi Nation small-boat fleet is coming to San Juan County to mop up escaped net-pen Atlantic Salmon. Tribal fisher-folk have been working for a week in the waters surrounding Cypress Island to remove these non-native fish from our environment. Now the fleet is spreading out to capture groups of fish that have dispersed to SJC waters.

These fish are being killed, taken to Bellingham cold storage and frozen to be used as evidence in Lummi court actions against Cooke Aquaculture. We are hauling fish and helping co-ordinate fishing efforts in our home waters.

If you see signs of fish anywhere around Orcas, including jumpers, visible schools, or other signs, please let us know at 360-468-0533 or our Boat cell at 360-298-5407 so that we can direct tribal fishers to remove as many of these creatures as possible.
