There’s going to be some intriguing folks at Doe Bay this weekend, and not just in the audience.
The Doe Bay Cafe is hosting everyone’s all-time favorite soap opera, the sold-out Seattle hit “All My Children” this Saturday night at 8 p.m. — a one-man masterpiece for incredible laughs
Showtime allows time for a dinner reservation beforehand in the Doe Bay Cafe. Book a table by calling 360-376-8059. The performance will be in the Doe Bay Yoga Studio, for a cover charge of only $5.
Then on Sunday, the SPLAB Literary Series hosts a Writers Workshop, from 1 to 4 p.m. This time the series hosts “Naked Poetry” by Anastacia Tolbert. In “Naked Poetry,” a workshop for people who wear clothes, we will debunk the oh-no-I-can’t-share this myth by writing about topics that make us uncomfortable, squirm in our seats and forget we are wearing clothes.
After we’ve gotten brave enough to write these poems be will practice the “flip” technique and rearrange lines using the theory of last line first. Come and be nude, challenged and flipped off. It’ll be worth it. The fee is a suggested donation of $20, but we will do our best to accommodate interested folks that cannot afford that level of donation. Please register for this workshop by emailing office@doebay.com. To register, call 376-8059 or see www.doebay.com
Then at 7 p.m. Sunday evening, SPLAB continues at the Doe Bay Cafe for a spoken word lab! Anastacia Tolbert will be the featured writer. Tolbert is also the co-director, and co-producer of “GOTBREAST?” documentary (2007): a film about the views of women regarding breast and body image.
Her poetry, fiction and nonfiction have been published widely. Tolbert will also be commentating “GOTBREAST?” at the Monday night movie (also in the Cafe). The movie starts at 7 p.m. with free popcorn at show time and half-priced bottles of wine. Dinner reservations are recommended, call 376-8059 or see www.doebay.com
