Jeffrey Cohan brings vocalist, vibes, pianist and flutist to “Jazzin’ with the Classics” on Dec. 28

What do the Beach Boys, Barbra Streisand, Johnny Mathis, Olivia Newton-John, Bill Frisell, Frank Zappa, Mannheim Steamroller, Sammy Davis, Jr. and many others all have in common? …They’ve all performed with Tom Collier, director of percussion studies at the University of Washington, our special guest in our ninth annual Yuletide Baroque sponsored by Emmanuel Episcopal Parish.

A very special Christmas concert! Four classical and jazz artists and friends meld their musical perspectives in this unusual collaboration and unique celebration of the Yuletide season that will generate an abundance of Christmas cheer. Linda Tsatsanis, Tom Collier, Martin Lund and Jeffrey Cohan team up to bridge contemporary improvisational jazz and the “art music” of earlier times:

Linda Tsatsanis ~ soprano
Tom Collier ~ vibes
Martin Lund ~ flute, clarinet & piano
Jeffrey Cohan ~ flute

Instrumental musicians have “jazzed up” melodies familiar to them in the style of their day for centuries, and this team’s virtuoso improvisations on Yuletide favorites bring together the best of jazz and classical worlds and is not to be missed. This completely new program follows last year’s immensely popular one-of-a kind twist on yuletide favorites and less familiar but gorgeous carols. We have never experienced anything quite like it and hope you’ll join us on Monday at Emmanuel Episcopal Parish in Eastsound.
